Protein Engineering and Synthetic Biology/Metabolic Engineering Research in this group focuses on protein engineering, metabolic engineering, bioinformatics and high throughput technologies such as directed evolution and protein microarrays. The goal of our research is to develop genetically based bioproducts and bioprocesses and to understand their biochemical and biophysical mechanisms at the molecular level. We are taking a two-pronged approach: isolation of the functionally improved or novel biomolecules by directed evolution and rational design and detailed characterization of these biomolecules by a variety of biochemical and biophysical methods, including structural and spectroscopic analysis.
